Aperture 3: Matching RAW or JPEG files cannot be imported from iPad after initial import

Symptoms

If you capture paired RAW and JPEG photos from a camera to your iPad, and then import only the JPEG (or only the RAW) of each pair into Aperture, it is not possible to subsequently import the matching paired photos into Aperture.

Resolution

The underlying issue is that when you import photos from an iPad, it is not possible to set an existing Aperture project as the destination, meaning there is no way to match the paired photos from the iPad after the initial import. To work around this, select RAW + JPEG when importing from iPad.
