Apple Remote Desktop 3.x: Client issues when User Accounting is enabled

Products Affected

Apple Remote Desktop 3.X, Mac OS X v10.5

Symptoms

The Remote Desktop agent may stop working on a Mac OS X v10.5-based client when User Accounting is enabled.

Messages such as the following may appear in the system.log:

com.apple.launchd[211] (com.apple.RemoteDesktop.agent[88425]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault

Resolution

  1. Download and install Apple Remote Desktop v3.3 or later.  ARD 3.3 should be installed on both the client and admin.
  2. Select the client in the list and open the Get Info window.
  3. Under the Reporting tab, deselect (uncheck) User Accounting.

Do not re-enable User Accounting on the client.
