MobileMe: Message sending limit alert when trying to send an email

Products Affected

MobileMe Mail

Symptoms

After sending an email from MobileMe using WebMail or the desktop mail application, you may receive a message titled "Delivery Notification: Delivery has failed" with the following text:

"You have exceeded your message/recipient sending limits. Try again later."

You may get this message every time you try to send an email.

Resolution

MobileMe Mail has a message sending limit of 200 messages or 1000 recipients per rolling 24-hour period. For example, if you send 100 messages at 8 a.m. and then 100 messages at 12:00 noon, you would reach your message sending limit at noon, but you would be able to start sending messages again at 8 a.m. the next day.

If you do not believe that you have sent 200 messages but you are still receiving these messages:

  1. Check your mail rules to insure that there are no automated messages that could be causing the high number of sent messages.
  2. Check your sent messages to insure that you have actually sent all the messages and your account has not been compromised. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and security questions.

For more information about your MobileMe Mail, see Email account specifications.
