Motion 4: Images you import may appear too bright or too dark

To maintain compatibility across Final Cut Studio applications, Motion assumes that all imported still images are encoded with a gamma of 1/1.8. If the image is actually encoded with a gamma of 1/2.2 (for example, an sRGB image), then the image will appear too bright when viewed within Motion.

You can change the default gamma setting by selecting the image in the Media tab and choosing Window > Media or by pressing Command-5.

Choose the Media tab in the Inspector and change the Gamma pop-up menu to the appropriate choice for the image. If the image appears too bright, select Gamma 2.2. If the image appears too dark, select Gamma 1.8.
