Symptoms

If you've installed the Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, and then try to connect to a Final Cut Server via a web browser to download the Final Cut Server client, you may encounter some unexpected behavior. For example, the Final Cut Server client may download, but may not open automatically as expected. Also, in some cases, the Final Cut Server client may not open if you double-click the Final Cut Server desktop shortcut.

Also, The Final Cut Server client file you download may appear with a generic application icon and may try to open with TextEdit or another application.

Resolution

  1. Delete any existing Final Cut Server desktop shortcut icons from the affected system.
  2. Remove cached Final Cut Server files.
In the FInder, choose Go > Utilities and open Java Preferences. Click Network and then click the View Cache Files button in the lower-right corner of the window.
  3. Choose Resources from the Show pop-up menu. Select any items that include "FinalCutServer" in the name. Click the red "X" button to remove the selected items. Also, select and remove the "macJnlp.php" file, making sure that the URL column for that file contains your Final Cut Server system URL.
  4. Open the CoreServices folder located in: /System/Library/CoreServices. Simply opening this folder will reassociate the Final Cut Server Client with the correct application to open it.
  5. Enter the URL for your Final Cut Server into your web browser. The URL uses the format of http://hostname/FinalCutServer, where hostname is the IP address or name of the computer you installed Final Cut Server on.
  6. Download the Final Cut Server client from the "Welcome to Final Cut Server" web page that appears in the web browser.
