Logic Pro 8, Logic Express 8: Cannot select USB mic as an audio input

Products Affected

Logic Express 8, Logic Pro 8

Symptoms

When you connect a USB microphone to your computer, it is not available as a selection in the Device pop-up menu under Logic Pro (or Express) > Preferences > Audio > Devices.

Resolution

USB mics can't be directly assigned because Logic only recognizes audio devices that provide both input and output. To use a USB mic with Logic:

  1. Create an aggregate device that includes the USB mic and at least one pair of outputs in the Audio MIDI Setup utility. See this article for information on how to create an aggregate device.
  2. Assign the aggregate device to the Device pop-up menu under Logic Pro (or Express) > Preferences > Audio > Devices
