What to do if your saved Keynote '09, Pages '09, or Numbers '09 document appears as a folder

Products Affected

iWork '09

Symptoms

In some cases, when saving an iWork '09 document, instead of creating a single file with the name you assigned to the document, a folder is created that contains other files.

Resolution

In iWork '09, a new feature allows iWork documents to be saved in the Single File Format which makes it easier to share documents using webmail and other applications. Follow these steps to make sure your file is not saved as a folder:

  1. Open your iWork document.
  2. Choose Preferences from the application menu (Pages, Numbers, or Keynote).
  3. Click the General icon at the top left of the Preferences pane.
  4. Deselect the option to "Save new documents as packages" if it is currently selected.

If this does not resolve the issue, and you have installed StuffIt Expander, you may need to change the StuffIt Expander Preferences:

  1. Open StuffIt Expander.
  2. Choose Preferences from the StuffIt Expander menu.
  3. Click the Expansion icon.
  4. Deselect the option to "Automatically expand archives in: <folder name>".
