Xsan Admin: Unable to see a computer you want to add to a SAN

If you can't see a computer that you want to add to a SAN via Xsan Admin, follow the instructions in this article.

If the computer was in a different SAN

Remove the computer from its original SAN. If you are unable to remove the computer from its original SAN, uninstall and reinstall Xsan on the computer that you are trying to add to the new SAN.

Try "Add Remote Computer"

In some network configurations, Xsan Admin may be unable to detect the computer you are adding. In Xsan Admin, click "Add Remote Computer" and enter the computer's public IP address or DNS host name.

Important: In Xsan Admin versions earlier than Xsan Admin 2.2, you should not add a remote computer using its metadata IP address--only use its public IP address or DNS host name. If you already added a computer by its metadata IP address, Xsan configuration files may be adversely affected. You should restore the /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config directory from a backup. Alternatively, if another metadata controller is available, you can:

  1. Uninstall Xsan on the metadata controller whose configuration files were deleted, then reinstall Xsan.

  2. Connect to the other metadata controller in Xsan Admin and re-add the controller whose configuration files were deleted.
