Archived - Mail may unexpectedly quit with Safari 4 and GrowlMail installed

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Symptoms

After you install Safari 4, Mail may unexpectedly quit when opened if a third-party Mail plugin (GrowlMail) is installed.

Resolution

This may occur if you have the third-party GrowlMail plugin installed, as well as Safari 4. You can manually remove GrowlMail with these steps:

  1. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  2. Go to this folder (type or paste the following):

    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles

  3. Remove any Growl plugins from the folder.
  4. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  5. Go to this folder (type or copy and paste the following, which is slightly different than step 2):

    /Library/Mail/Bundles
  6. Remove any Growl plugins from this folder as well.

You should now be able to open and use Mail.

Additional Information
