Back to My Mac: Choose one MobileMe account per computer to use with Back to My Mac in Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard
Products Affected
Back to My Mac, Mac OS X 10.5, MobileMe Account
Symptoms
Back to My Mac allows you to easily connect to your remote Macs that have been configured with your MobileMe account. In Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, only one MobileMe account can be set up for Back to My Mac at any given time. This article applies if you have more than one MobileMe account configured on your Mac, are using Mac OS X v10.5, and want to use Back to My Mac. If you only use one MobileMe account on your Mac, or you are using Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, this article does not apply to you.
Although you can configure Mac OS X with different user accounts that might each be configured with a different MobileMe account in Mac OS v10.5, Back to My Mac can only be set up with one MobileMe account per computer. See below to learn how to designate a MobileMe account for Back to My Mac in Mac OS X v10.5 if you use multiple accounts.
Resolution
If you are using multiple MobileMe accounts via different user accounts on the same Mac, decide which MobileMe account you want to use for Back to My Mac for the computer, then disable Back to My Mac for any user accounts that use a different MobileMe account.
- Log in to the Mac OS X user account that is configured with a MobileMe account that you don't want to use with Back to My Mac.
- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
- From the View menu, choose MobileMe.
- Click the Back to My Mac tab.
- Click the Stop button. This will stop Back to My Mac for the computer, but does not stop other MobileMe functionality such as iDisk, Publishing, Sync, or other services for the MobileMe account associated with this user account (as long as one is logged in to Mac OS X as that account).
- From the Apple () menu, choose Log Out (user name).
- If you have more than two MobileMe accounts configured on your Mac, repeat steps 1 through 6 for any other Mac OS X user accounts that are associated with other MobileMe accounts which you don't want to use with Back to My Mac.
- Log in to the Mac OS X user account that you wish to use with Back to My Mac (which is already configured with your other MobileMe account).
- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
- From the View menu, choose MobileMe.
- Click the Back to My Mac tab.
- Click the Start button. This will turn Back to My Mac on again for the computer.
Additional Information
If you want to use Back to My Mac with multiple user accounts and multiple MobileMe accounts, you should consider upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
