iTunes: Adding or modifying information about songs

Products Affected

iTunes

Symptoms

For songs you have imported from CD, iTunes will download the factual information about each song from the Gracenote service. The factual information can include the song name, artist, album, year, track number, disc number, and more. In some instances, no information, partial, or incorrect information may be downloaded. You can also add additional information to each song, such as a comment or description. You can also add to or change this information for items purchased from the iTunes Store.

Resolution

If you want to add or change information about a song in your iTunes library, follow these steps:

  1. In iTunes, select a song by clicking it once. If you want to change the info for more than one song at a time, select all of the songs that you want to have the same information by holding down the Command key (Mac) or the Control key (Windows) while you single click each song to be changed.
  2. Choose File > Get Info.
  3. Click the "Info" tab.
  4. Enter the song information that you want to display into the appropriate fields.

You can follow these same steps to add or change information about videos, audiobooks, ringtones, and most other items in your iTunes library.

Note: The Name field must always contain information.
