MobileMe: Mixed case or all capital member name may cause iOS device syncing issue after updating to iOS 4.2 or later

Products Affected

MobileMe

Symptoms

After updating to iOS 4.2 or later on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, over-the-air iOS device syncing may not work with MobileMe if you enter your member name in mixed case or all capital letters.

Note: The Mail app on your iOS device is not affected nor is syncing with previous iOS versions.

Resolution

Note: Versions prior to iOS 4.2 do not have this issue.

If you have already updated your iOS device(s) to iOS 4.2 or later, and your member name is in mixed-case or all capital letters, you will need to delete and recreate the account. Follow the appropriate set of instructions below depending on your situation.

If all of your data is available at me.com or on your computer

  1. When you delete the account on your device, also choose to delete the data on the device when prompted.
  2. When you re-add and setup your account on your device, add the account with a lower-case member name. If prompted to do so, choose to merge the data on the device.

If all of your data is not available at me.com or on your computer

  1. When you delete the account on your device, choose to keep the data on the device when promoted.
  2. When you re-add and setup your account on your device, add the account with a lower-case member name. If prompted to do so, choose to merge the data on the device.

Note: If this doesn't solve the issue, see this article for other troubleshooting options.
