iPhone and iPod touch: Mail attachments with certain international characters may not display correctly
Symptoms
- When viewing a plain text (usually end in .txt) file with international characters such as from Chinese or Japanese that is an attachment to an email, the characters may not display as expected.
- An email with multiple text files attached with international characters such as from Chinese or Japanese may show one attachment as a blue square with a question mark as shown below:

Resolution
Ask the sender to resend the attached file by itself without any text in the body of the email message.
If the issue persists, ask the sender to copy the text from the attachment and resend the text in the body of the mail message, instead of as an attachment.
