Logic Pro/Express: Playback may unexpectedly stop in projects using DSP powered plug-ins
Symptoms
Logic may sometimes stop playback with a "Core Audio Overload" message. This may occur in projects that use DSP powered plug-ins such as UAD, TC PowerCore, SSL Duende, or Focusrite Liquid Mix.
Products Affected
Logic Express 8, Logic Pro 8, Third party hardware powered plug-ins
Resolution
For best results when using DSP powered plug-ins, set the I/O buffer in Logic to at least 512 samples.
- From the menu bar, choose Logic Pro (or Logic Express) > Preferences > Audio.
- Click the Devices tab.
- Click the Core Audio tab.
- Select the I/O Buffer Size pop-up menu and choose "512."
- Click Apply Changes.

Note: Raising the I/O buffer size will increase input latency. For detailed information on buffer size and latency see Logic: Learn about I/O buffer size and monitoring latency.
A good strategy for working with DSP powered plug-ins is to wait to use them until mixdown. You can track with a lower buffer setting in Logic and then increase the buffer size to 512 when you start to mix with the DSP powered plug-ins.
