iPhone Configuration Utility 1.1: Mac OS X version cannot import signed profiles from Windows version

  • Last Modified: December 01, 2008

Symptoms

The iPhone Configuration Utility can be used to create Configuration Profiles to easily manage settings on iPhone and iPod touch. Configuration Profiles may optionally be signed with a certificate to validate their authenticity.

When a signed profile is created with the Microsoft Windows version of the iPhone Configuration Utility, it cannot be imported into the Mac OS X version of the utility. No error message is displayed.

An unsigned profile, however, can be imported without issue, and either type of profile can be created on the Mac OS X version and imported into the Windows version without issue.

Products Affected

iPhone, iPod touch, iPhone 3G, iPod touch (2nd generation)

Resolution

Use these steps as a work-around to this issue:

  1. Quit the iPhone Configuration Utility in Mac OS X.
  2. Manually copy the Configuration Profile into ~/Library/MobileDevice/Configuration Profiles.
  3. Re-open the iPhone Configuration Utility.

The Configuration Profile should now be listed.
