iPhone: Troubleshooting Emoji issues
Symptoms
This article will help explain known issues when composing emails with Emoji and how to avoid them.
The following scenarios may cause a received email to not appear as expected:
- An email sent with a long sequence of Emoji characters (without a return character)
- An email sent with a single Emoji character, then a sequence of 36 or more Japanese characters
- An email sent with the characters © ® ™
- When an email has a long subject of an email containing Emoji characters
Products Affected
iPhone, iPhone 3G
Resolution
- An email sent with a long sequence of Emoji characters (without a return character) may cause the mail to display as one Emoji character per line. If this occurs, try resending the email with returns at the end of each line. Tip: Switch to the Japanese QWERTY keyboard to easily tap the Return key.
- An email sent with a single Emoji character, then a sequence of 36 or more Japanese characters may add an unexpected line break. To avoid this behavior, insert a return character as needed.
The following issues have been addressed in the iPhone OS 3.0 software. Install this software when troubleshooting these issues:
- When an email including any of the characters © ® ™ added from the Emoji keyboard is forwarded from the iPhone, the characters may not be displayed correctly, depending on the email client and service of the recipient.
- An email sent with the characters © ® ™ added from the Emoji keyboard may cause the other Emoji characters to turn into black diamonds with a question mark.
- The subject of an email containing a sequence of many Emoji characters may appear to the recipient as a sequence of black diamonds with a question mark or with obscure Kanji characters.
