Xsan 2, Mac OS X Server version 10.5: Directory Utility LDAPv3 plugin settings must be manually set on Primary Xsan Metadata Controller before Xsan Setup Assistant
Symptoms
When using the Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Server Assistant, if one assigns the role "Xsan Metadata Controller" and then chooses to connect to an existing Directory Domain, Directory Utility’s LDAPv3 plugin may not be configured as expected.
Products Affected
Mac OS X Server 10.5, Xsan 2
Resolution
Xsan 2 includes a feature that configures Xsan Client’s and secondary Metadata Controller’s Directory Utility settings to match the Primary Metadata Controller’s Directory Utility settings. In order for this feature to execute properly, it is important that the Primary Metadata Controller’s Directory Utility settings be properly configured before completing the Xsan Setup Assistant.
Solution 1
The Mac OS X Server 10.5 Server Assistant does not configure Directory Utility settings for computers designated "Xsan Metadata Controller". To correct the Directory Utility settings, either open Directory Utility on the Metadata Controller, or configure the remote Metadata Controller's Directory Utility settings by connecting to it from a remote workstation via Directory Utility. To do so, open Directory Utility, choose Connect from the File menu, then enter the Metadata Controller's IP address and authentication information.
In Directory Utility, Select Services and configure the LDAPv3 plugin so that it is enabled and that the settings are configured in such a way that the Metadata Controller is using an Open Directory Server for purposes of authentication. Once the configuration has been adjusted, you may proceed with using the Xsan Setup Assistant.
Once the Xsan Setup Assistant has been completed, check Directory Utility on all SAN machines to ensure that the settings were successfully configured.
Solution 2
To avoid this issue, install the operating system using Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 or later installation discs.
