MobileMe Control Panel: Calendars is dimmed, cannot be selected for syncing in Windows

Symptoms

In the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows' Sync tab, you may not be able to select calendars to sync with MobileMe (the Calendars selection appears dimmed, or "grayed out").

Resolution

This can occur if Microsoft Outlook is not installed or you don't have a supported version of it; Calendar syncing with MobileMe Calendar is only supported for Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010. If you do not have one of these versions installed on Windows, Calendar syncing with MobileMe is not available.
