Multimedia applications may quit unexpectedly with some third party QuickTime components

Multimedia applications such as Final Cut Pro and iTunes may sometimes quit unexpectedly with some third party QuickTime components.
On occasion, some third party QuickTime components may cause issues with multimedia applications. Here are some trouble-shooting tips:
Check for updated versions of your third party components
An updated version of a component may resolve stability or other performance issues. Here are web sites for some of the more common third party QuickTime components:

Remove third party components
Try removing your third party QuickTime components to see if that resolves your issues.
Perian can be removed directly from System Preferences.
- Open System Preferences.
- Click the Perian icon at the bottom of the System Preferences window.
- Select the General tab in the Perian Preference pane.
- Click "Remove Perian".
To Uninstall Flip4Mac:
1) In Finder, go to ~/Applications/Flip4Mac.
2) Run Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg.
To remove other components:
- In Finder, navigate to /Library/QuickTime.
- Move any third party components to the Desktop.
- Restart your computer.
Note: be careful not to remove Apple components. If you are not sure if a component is an Apple or a third party component, control-click it and choose Get Info from the menu. Apple components will list "Apple Inc." in the Version field.
