iPhone: Time zone changes to Cupertino unexpectedly

Symptoms

In certain time zones such as Mumbai, India the following may sometimes occur:

  • Time zone unexpectedly changes to Cupertino.
  • Time stamps on recent calls and SMS messages may not appear as expected.

Resolution

If you experience these symptoms and you are not in the US Pacific Standard Time Zone (Cupertino) try any of these steps:

  • Verify your time zone is set correctly by selecting the closest city to yours in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.
  • If the issue persists, try selecting another city that is close to you and confirm that the time is set correctly for your location.
  • If your iPhone has this option, set the time automatically in Settings > General > Date & Time, then turn the iPhone off.
  • Select a different city (other than your closest city) in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone. Turn off iPhone, then turn iPhone back on.
  • Make sure the date and time is set correctly.
