Symptoms

You may not be able to complete some text fields during the MobileMe sign-up process if you use Japanese language characters (such as names or Furigana / phonetic reading). This issue may occur when using Safari in Mac OS X.

Products Affected

Safari 3 (Mac OS X 10.4), Safari 3 (Mac OS X 10.5), Safari 4 (Mac OS X 10.5), Safari 4 (Mac OS X 10.4), MobileMe

Resolution

Workarounds

As a workaround, type in your personal information and security information first in Japanese (Last Name, First Name, Last Name Katakana, First Name Katakana, Secret Question and its answer), and then type in your member name and password and email address in single-byte Roman characters (Desired Member Name, Password / Re-Type Password, and Alternate Email Address).

As a different workaround, you can use English alphabet characters during signup. You can change your information later (with Japanese characters) at the MobileMe account page.

Additional Information

Other web browsers for both Mac and Windows may not be affected by this issue.
