Symptoms

If you're using an M-Audio iControl with GarageBand 2, the iControl may not work in these two situations:

  • You connect more than one iControl to the same computer.
  • You have a USB MIDI interface connected to the same computer.

Products Affected

GarageBand

Resolution

If you connect more than one iControl...

If you connect more than one iControl to your computer, none of the control surfaces will work. Please note that GarageBand only supports one iControl device at a time. If you connect more than one, many buttons and controls on the first device won't work, and all additional iControls will be completely non-functional.

If you're using a USB MIDI interface...

If you connect a USB MIDI interface, open GarageBand, and then connect the iControl, GarageBand may not respond to commands sent from the iControl. If this happens, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Garageband.
  2. Go to the Library folder in your Home folder (~/Library).
  3. Open the Preferences folder inside the Library folder (~/Library/Preferences).
  4. Locate the file "com.apple.garageband.cs" and drag it to the Trash.
  5. Open GarageBand.

iControl should now work with GarageBand.
