Mac OS X 10.4: Managed Client - iPhoto, Image Capture can't find a connected camera

Symptoms

When you use Workgroup Manager to restrict client access to applications, iPhoto or Image Capture may not be able to detect a camera or import from it.

Mac OS X Server 10.4, Mac OS X Client 10.4

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open Workgroup Manager (/Applications/Server).
  2. Select the user account, group, or computer list you wish to edit.
  3. Click Preferences, then Applications.
  4. Select the "Allow approved applications to launch non-approved applications" checkbox.

The account that you selected in step 2 should now be able to use iPhoto or Image Capture to import photos from a camera. Repeat the steps for other accounts, if needed.
