Items in the Bluetooth preference pane are dimmed (unavailable)

Symptoms

If you performed a custom installation of Mac OS X in which the BSD Subsystem was not selected, Bluetooth will not work properly.


The Bluetooth preference pane icon appears, but all controls inside the pane are dimmed (unavailable).
