Symptoms

When an image is sent from Aperture using iPhoto as external editor, changes made in iPhoto do not show up in Aperture.

Products Affected

Aperture, iPhoto

Resolution

This is expected. When you edit an image in iPhoto, the original is not modified. iPhoto makes a copy of the original, and then modifies the copy. Aperture is not aware of this, and sees the untouched original. Here is how to use iPhoto to edit images for Aperture:

  1. After you have performed your edits in iPhoto, choose File > Export.
  2. Click the File Export tab in then Export window.
  3. Specify the size, file format, and name of the exported image.
  4. Click the Export button and select a destination for the file.
  5. In Aperture, import the image exported from iPhoto into your project.

If you like, you can now delete the extra master created by Aperture when you sent the image to iPhoto.
