Mac OS X Server 10.5: Bind server to Active Directory after completing Server Assistant

Symptoms

If you attempt to bind your Mac OS X 10.5 Server-based server to an Active Directory server during the Server Assistant setup process, you may see the following message:

"Directory services were unable to be set up correctly. Please use Directory Utility to select the Open Directory server."

Resolution

Bind your server to the Active Directory server after completing Server Assistant.

  1. Open the Directory Utility (in /Applications/Utilities)/
  2. Click the lock icon to authenticate.
  3. Click the "+" button.
  4. Enter the requested information for the Active Directory server.
  5. Restart the server.
