Symptoms

When using Safari on an Intel-based Mac, you might see an alert message that you don't have a certain plug-in installed (for example, a plug-in to play multimedia content within a web page) even though you do have a plug-in installed. Or, you may see a blank area where plug-in content might be expected.

Products Affected

Mac mini (Mid 2007), Mac mini (Late 2006), Mac mini (Early 2006), iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007), iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), iMac (Mid 2006 17-inch), iMac (Early 2006 20-inch), iMac (Early 2006 17-inch), iMac (24-inch, Late 2006), Safari, MacBook Pro, MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac (20-inch Late 2006), iMac (17-inch, Late 2006 CD), iMac (17-inch, Late 2006), MacBook Air, iMac (24-inch, Early 2008), iMac (20-inch, Early 2008)

Resolution

Check with the plug-in's vendor to see if the there is a Universal plug-in format version available (or "Universal binary"). If so, download and install that version of the plug-in.

If no such version is available, you can run Safari with Rosetta to avoid the issue. See Intel-based Macs: Forcing a Universal application to run with Rosetta.
