iPhone and iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response

Resolution

If your device is experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, try the following steps:

1. Clean the iPhone screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
2. Do not wear gloves while using the Multi-Touch display. Do not use the touchscreen with wet hands or immediately after applying hand lotion. Moisture affects touchscreen behavior in the same manner as it affects a trackpad.
3. If you have a protective plastic sheet or film on the touchscreen, try removing it. It may be preventing the touchscreen from working properly.
4. If that doesn't work, turn the device off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of the device for few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. 5. If the device did not turn off, reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

• Open the basic calculator application to test all but the top row of the screen. Press each button on the calculator and verify activity.
• To test the area at the top of the screen, rotate the device to change to the scientific calculator and press all the buttons in the left two rows.
