Xsan 2.1: "Not enough free space" alert when copying data to new Xsan volume
Symptoms
When trying to copy data to Xsan volumes that were created under Xsan 2.1, you may receive this alert message"
"The item 'Your File Name' cannot be copied because there is not enough free space."
Products Affected
Xsan 2, Xsan 2.1
Resolution
It is possible that there is not enough free space to copy the file to the Xsan volume. It is also possible that this message may be inaccurately presented if you have configured a storage pool to be used for "User data only" with the option enabled for "Only data with affinity" checked.
While it is valid to specify a storage pool to contain "User data only" along with "Only data with affinity" enabled, a volume must contain at least one storage pool for "Any Data", or one for "User Data" which does not have the "Only data with affinity" option enabled (checked).
To avoid this issue, you should destroy the existing volume and create a new volume with at least two storage pools used for "User data only". At least one of these storage pools should not be specified for "Only data with affinity". The rest of the storage pools may be dedicated to "Only data with affinity".
