MobileMe: Deleting or editing Gallery content
Symptoms
Sometimes you may see unexpected behavior after editing or deleting content you have published to MobileMe Gallery.
Products Affected
MobileMe
Resolution
iPhoto, iMovie, and Aperture handle modifications to published content differently:
iPhoto
- Performing the command iPhoto > Empty Trash will unpublish content from MobileMe Gallery if you remain logged in to your account. This can also happen when performing this action on items under Events or Photos associated with content published to MobileMe Gallery. To remove Photos and Events from the Trash without affecting published content, first log out of your MobileMe account by choosing Apple > System Preferences, selecting MobileMe and clicking Sign Out.
- If you delete or edit an image in iPhoto while a sync or publish is running, that image may not get published to an album on your MobileMe Gallery. Sometimes, the album that contains a photo you have edited or deleted while a publish or sync was running may not appear in the Web Gallery until you perform a subsequent publish or sync request.
iMovie
- If you select a project from the iMovie Project Library, then choose File > Move Project to Trash and click Delete, only the locally stored project is deleted. The movie is still online at MobileMe. The online copy of the movie can be removed from MobileMe Gallery by clicking the Delete icon in the MobileMe toolbar. Another way to remove movies from MobileMe is to choose Share > Remove from MobileMe in iMovie. This removes both the locally stored movie and the published project.
Aperture
- Deleting an image while a publish is running will not stop the publish activity. Images or albums will be published to MobileMe as "Copy of...image_name". To halt a publish and remove albums, choose Aperture > Preferences, select the Web Gallery tab, select the album in question, and click Stop Publishing. To delete specific images in an album you have already published, use the Delete icon in the MobileMe Gallery toolbar online.
Additional Information
As a new feature in MobileMe Gallery, you can change the application with which an album is synced.
For example, if you add an album to your Gallery using iPhoto and you want to see it in the Aperture Gallery list:
- Select and enter the album
- Click the Album Settings icon in MobileMe Gallery toolbar (looks like a light switch)
- Change the application next to "Syncs with" from iPhoto to Aperture
- Click Change
Changing from Aperture to iPhoto is also allowed. This feature is not available for movies.
