MobileMe: Alert message when trying to check email

Products Affected

MobileMe

Symptoms

If you see one or more of these alert messages when you try to check your MobileMe email, you may need to wait or reset your password:

  • "Invalid member name or password."
  • "Your member name or password may be invalid. Please enter a different name or password."
  • "Name or password invalid." (this may occur at me.com or in System Preferencess)
  • "The me.com or mac.com server [mail.me.com or  mail.mac.com] rejected the password for user 'membername'." (this may occur in the Mac OS X Mail application)

Resolution

Wait a few minutes, then try again.

If the issue persists, reset your password:

  1. Go to (http://iforgot.apple.com/).
  2. When prompted for your account name, enter your email address (such as me@me.com or me@mac.com). Note: Be sure to include the "@me.com" or "@mac.com" part of your address when entering your email address.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. The Password Reset Options web page appears. Choose whether you'd like to reset your password by receiving an email with instructions (Option 1), or by answering your security questions online (Option 2).
    • Use Option 1 (click "Send email") if you have access to your MobileMe email (the last part of your email address will be displayed for verification). Follow the instructions in the email. If you cannot access your email currently, you will probably want to use Option 2.

    • Use Option 2 (click "Answer Question") if you do not have access to your email, or if you prefer this option over email. Enter the appropriate answer to the password question you entered when creating your account. If you answer the question correctly, you will be able to enter a new password. Enter your birth date when prompted.

  5. Click Continue.
  6. When prompted, provide the response to the secret question you created when setting up your account.
  7. Enter a new password for your account and verify it.
  8. Log in with your new password.

Note: After changing your password, enter your new password into me.com or Sytem Preferences. For Mac OS X 10.5 information, click here.
