Switching between Outlook and Windows Address Book syncing prompts to merge or replace the contacts on the iPod touch or iPhone

Symptoms

In iTunes on Windows XP, when changing the selected program to sync contacts with between Outlook and Windows Address Book, iTunes will prompt to merge or replace the contacts on the iPod touch or iPhone.

Resolution

Click Merge to merge the Windows Address Book data with the existing iPhone contacts. Click Replace to overwrite the current iPhone contacts with the information from Windows Address Book.
