iPhone: Compatibility message appears when connected to a 'Works with iPhone' accessory

Symptoms

When you connect an iPhone into an accessory with the "Works with iPhone" label, the message "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone" may appear.

Resolution

If you get this message when you are using a "Works with iPhone" accessory, make sure of the following:

  • Make sure the packaging for the product says "Works with iPhone" and not "Made for iPod".

  • The iPhone dock connector is free of any debris.
  • The "Works with iPhone" accessory's connector is free of debris.
  • The iPhone is securely connected to the accessory—that is, it is not sitting crookedly within an iPhone dock and making only partial connection.
