iPhone and iPod touch: Disabling digital camera notification in Windows Vista

Symptoms

When the iPhone or iPod touch is connected to a computer running Microsoft Windows Vista, a dialog is presented with choices for connecting a digital camera and working with the digital pictures stored on the iPhone or iPod touch.

This is the default behavior under Windows Vista for digital imaging devices. Windows Vista provides a way to disable this notification on a per-device basis.

Resolution

To disable this notification:

  1. Connect iPhone or iPod touch to the Windows Vista computer.
  2. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound.
  4. In Hardware and Sound, choose AutoPlay.
  5. Scroll down to section labeled "Devices" where it will list Apple iPhone or iPod touch.
  6. Choose Take no action from the device pop-up menu.
  7. Click Save.
