iWeb ’08: Some podcast MP3s may be converted to a MOV format when published

Products Affected

QuickTime for Mac, iWeb '08 (2.x)

Symptoms

When you use iWeb '08 (iWeb 2.x) and have QuickTime 7.4.5 on your computer, some podcast MP3 files may be converted to MOV files when you publish the podcast.

Resolution

For any MP3 file that is converted to MOV, use iTunes to convert the MP3 file to a VBR (Variable Bit Rate) MP3 file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Add the affected MP3 file to the iTunes library, if it is not already in iTunes.
  2. Open iTunes and choose iTunes > Preferences.
  3. Click Advanced, then click Importing.
  4. From the "Import Using" menu, choose "MP3 Encoder."
  5. From the "Setting" menu, choose "Custom..."
  6. Select the "Use Variable Bit Rate Encoding (VBR)" option and click OK.
  7. Select the file in your iTunes library that was converted to a MOV file (Command-click to select multiple songs) and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to MP3"
  8. Open iWeb '08 and add the converted song, now in VBR MP3 format, to your Podcast.  This replaces the original MP3 with the VBR MP3.
