iPhone and iPod touch: Frozen and unresponsive
Symptoms
iPhone or iPod touch may exhibit a symptom where you will see an image on the display, however, it does not respond to any button, switch, or touchscreen input. In these cases refer to the troubleshooting suggestion below.

Resolution
There are a few ways to address the symptom described above.
Try forcing an application to close
To force an application to close, follow these steps:
iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.0 or later
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. When the red slider appears, release the Sleep/Wake button.
- Instead of dragging the red slider, press and hold the Home button for six seconds.
- If the device does not return to the Home screen, see the steps below to restart.
iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 2.2.1 or earlier
- Press and hold the Home button for six seconds.
- If the device does not return to the Home screen, see the steps below to restart.
If the iPhone or iPod touch remains unresponsive, try restarting the device:

- To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
- Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone.
- To turn iPhone or iPod touch on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If the iPhone or iPod touch remains unresponsive after trying the above steps or if it is in a different state, such as showing a persistent Apple logo on the display, try resetting the device:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds.
