Symptoms

Find out what to do if iPod doesn't respond or seems unresponsive when you wake it from sleep while turning off the Hold switch.

If your iPod model doesn't respond or seems unresponsive when you wake it from sleep while turning off the Hold switch, wait about 30 seconds to see if your iPod recovers from this state and works normally.

Products Affected

iPod nano, iPod

Resolution

If iPod does not start working normally after about 30 seconds, take these steps:

  1. Slide the Hold switch to the locked position (toward the headphones port).
  2. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position (away from the headphones port).

Additional Information

iPod calibrates its touch-sensitive surfaces when you turn off the Hold switch. Touching the buttons or the touch wheel on a sleeping iPod at the same time that you turn off the Hold switch causes iPod to calibrate to the capacitance of your finger instead of the air. This can cause iPod to turn on but appear unresponsive when waking from sleep.
