Promise VTrak: Correct shutdown and startup of RAID Controllers and SAS-connected Expansion Chassis

Symptoms

It is important for any SAS-connected Expansion Chassis to be fully booted before booting the RAID Controller.

Correct shutdown order:

  1. Shutdown RAID Controller
  2. Shutdown SAS-connected Expansion Chassis

Correct boot order:

  1. Boot SAS-connected Expansion Chassis
  2. Boot RAID Controller

Not following this above boot order may result in drives being reported as "Dead" or Offline, even though the drives are actually operative. To resolve this issue, follow the steps described in this article.
