Final Cut Server: Uploading and transcoding a file without a filename extension will stop the job

  • Last Modified: April 18, 2008

Symptoms

When uploading an asset and transcoding it to a different format (for example an uncompressed asset to H.264) the following dialog will appear: "Upload Failed. The file is not a movie file."

Resolution

You can usually avoid this issue by adding the appropriate file extension to the filename.  (For example, for a Quicktime file you would add ".mov".)

Alternatively, you can follow these steps:

  1. Choose File > Upload
  2. Expand the Advanced Options disclosure triangle.
  3. In Advanced Options > Transcode Setting, choose "No Conversion".
  4. Click Upload.
