Final Cut Pro: Project cannot be saved by another user account

Symptoms

When you create a Final Cut Pro project, another user account on the same computer will not be able to overwrite the project by saving it.

For example, if you save a project in /Users/Shared/, another user account will be able to open it, but when that user tries to save the project, they may see a message such as the following:

File Error: The specified file is locked.

Resolution

Choose the Save As command from the File menu instead of Save. This will save a copy of the project (with any modifications made).
