Mac OS X 10.5: MobileMe Sync menu icon spins constantly

Symptoms

After entering a password for your Mac OS X screen saver, the MobileMe Sync menu icon may spin constantly.

This may happen if a dialog asking for confirmation of sync data changes opens while screen saver is running and the screen saver requires a password. (The dialog window is not accessible via the Dock.)

Resolution

Press your "Application windows" Exposé function key (check Dashboard & Exposé preferences in System Preferences if you're not sure which button is assigned), then select and confirm the Sync dialogue. The sync should complete as expected.
