Final Cut Pro: HDV timecode offset with Capture Now

Products Affected

Final Cut Pro

Symptoms

If you use Capture Now to capture HDV material via FireWire, the timecode in the resulting clips may be offset slightly from the timecode indicated on tape.

Resolution

Method 1
First click the Capture Now button, then press Play on your HDV device.

Method 2
With most HDV devices, the amount of offset will be consistent from one capture to the next. If this is the case with your HDV camcorder or deck, an alternate means of correcting for this issue is to specify a capture offset in the Device Control Preset Editor. For more information about changing device control presets, refer to the Final Cut Pro User Manual, available from the Help menu in Final Cut Pro.
