GarageBand 4.1.1: Performance may be slow with FireWire iSight and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and later
Symptoms
GarageBand 4.1.1 may respond slowly when a FireWire iSight is set to be the default audio input device on a computer running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later.
This issue may occur if the connected FireWire iSight is set to be the default input device in Audio MIDI Setup and GarageBand is set to use System Setting in the GarageBand preferences Audio/MIDI tab.

Resolution
To work around the issue and use the iSight with GarageBand:
- Open Audio MIDI Setup from /Applications/Utilities.
- Under System Settings set Default Input: to something other than the iSight.
For example, you might choose "Built-in Microphone" or "Built-in Input". The choices vary depending on your specific Mac model. - Open GarageBand and choose GarageBand > Preferences....
- Click on the Audio/MIDI icon in the Preferences window and set the Audio Output to "Built-in Output". The choices vary depending on your specific Mac model.
- Set Audio Input to the iSight.
