Archived - iLife '08 and later: Some iLife applications will not open after an OS reinstall or migration

Symptoms

After using the Archive and Install feature of the the Mac OS X Installer, or the migration feature using Migration Assistant utility, you may not be able to open any of the iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, or iDVD). The application icon may bounce in the Dock, but the application does not open. You may also receive an alert message.

Resolution

After you perform an Archive and Install or use Migration Assistant, be sure to do the following:

  1. Reinstall iLife '08 or iLife '09 from the original install disc.
  2. Run Software Update.

    Note: Be sure to install the latest iLife Media Browser update.

Additional Information

If you do not reinstall iLife after performing an Archive and Install, you may see the following messages in Console:

Library not loaded: 
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeMediaBrowser.framework/Versions/A/iLifeMediaBrowser

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow
