- AirPort Extreme uses the 802.11g wireless standard. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or Wi-Fi-certified 802.11b or 802.11g computer. Achieving data rates of 54 Mbps requires that all users have an AirPort Extreme or Wi-Fi-certified 802.11g enabled computer and connect to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station. If a user of a Wi-Fi-certified 802.11b product joins the network, that user will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme and Wi-Fi-certified 802.11g users will get less than 54 Mbps. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors.
- AirPort Extreme can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network.
- Wireless printing over USB requires Mac OS X v10.2.7 or later or Windows XP or Windows 2000 and a compatible printer.
- For use with Apple-approved antennas only. Antennas sold separately.
- Actual modem speeds lower; speed depends on connection rate and other factors.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) requires a compatible IEEE 802.3af PSE. USB port is disabled when PoE is in use.
- Weight varies by configuration and manufacturing process.
- Compatible with AOL 5.0 or later in the U.S. only. Simultaneous sharing of an AOL connection requires multiple AOL accounts.
- Support for WPA requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later. Use of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) reduces the maximum number of network users.
Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort Extreme.
