Replacing Apple wireless keyboard batteries

When the batteries in your Apple wireless keyboard need to be replaced, replace all of them at the same time with the same kind of batteries. Apple wireless keyboards use two, three, or four AA batteries, depending on the keyboard you’re using. Make sure the positive ends of the batteries are pointing the correct direction.

The Apple wireless keyboard comes with nonrechargeable AA batteries. You can also use alkaline or rechargeable AA batteries. Dispose of batteries according to local laws and regulations.

To replace the batteries of a wireless aluminum keyboard:

  1. Use a coin to remove the battery compartment cover.

  2. Removing keyboard battery compartment cover
  3. Slide two or three AA batteries into the battery compartment, depending on the keyboard you’re using. Make sure the positive ends are pointing the correct direction.

  4. Inserting batteries into keyboard
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover.

  6. Turn on the keyboard if you’re ready to use it.

To replace the batteries of a wireless white keyboard:

  1. Turn over the keyboard.

  2. Remove the battery compartment cover and batteries.

  3. Slide the AA batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure the positive ends are pointing the correct direction.

  4. Replace the battery compartment cover.

  5. Turn on the keyboard if you’re ready to use it.

If you’ve previously paired your keyboard with your computer, you do not have to set up the keyboard again after replacing the batteries. The keyboard should automatically pair itself with the computer a few moments after you turn it on.

If you have never paired your keyboard with your computer, you’ll need to do that before you can use it. See the documentation that came with your keyboard, or search Mac Help for setting up a wireless keyboard.
