Opening System Preferences using 32-bit mode

If you use a third party preference that isn’t 64-bit compatible, System Preferences opens in 32-bit mode. When you close System Preferences, it opens in 64-bit mode the next time you open a 64-bit compatible preference.

You can set up System Preferences to always open in 32-bit mode if you use 32-bit preferences often.

To set up System Preferences to open in 32-bit mode:

  1. Select System Preferences, located in the Applications folder, and then choose File > Get Info.

  2. Select the “Open in 32-bit mode” checkbox.
