AirPort Utility 6.x: Connect to the Internet using Ethernet

Connect to the Internet using Ethernet

If you use a DSL or cable modem to connect to the Internet, or if you connect to the Internet using a local area network (LAN), you can connect your base station or AirPort Time Capsule to the modem or the network and share the Internet connection with computers and clients on your wireless network.

You need to set how your base station or AirPort Time Capsule receives an Internet address from your Internet service provider (ISP) or network.

  1. Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Select the device you want to set up, then click Edit.
  2. Enter the base station password if necessary, then click Internet.
  3. Set up how your base station receives an IP address from the Connect Using pop-up menu:
    • Choose Using DHCP if your ISP sends you an IP address automatically.

    • Choose Static if your ISP gave you an IP address with your account. Enter any information you received from your ISP, such as your IP address, subnet mask, and router address.

    • Choose PPPoE if your ISP gave you an account name, password, and other information for your PPPoE account. Enter the information in the appropriate fields.

  4. Click Update to reset the device with these new settings.
