Delete contacts or groups

You can delete a contact from your address book or just from the groups in which it is included. You can also delete groups.

Delete a contact

  1. Select one or more contacts to delete.
  2. Choose Edit > Delete, or press the Delete key.

Address Book asks you to confirm the deletion.

Contacts are removed from your address book, including from any groups in which they were included.

Delete a contact from a group

  1. Select the group the contact belongs to.

If groups aren’t displayed, click the Groups icon at the top of the Address Book window.

  2. Select the contact and do one of the following:
    • To remove the contact from the group but keep it in your address book, choose Edit > Remove From Group.

    • To delete the contact from all groups and your address book, press the Delete key.

Delete a group

  1. Select a group to delete.

If groups aren’t displayed, click the Groups icon at the top of the Address Book window.

Before you can delete a group that’s used in the rule for a Smart Group, you must first edit the Smart Group and remove the group from the rule, or delete the Smart Group.

  2. Choose Edit > Delete, or press the Delete key.

Address Book asks you to confirm the deletion. To skip the confirmation when you delete groups, press Option and Delete at the same time.

You can’t delete the Contacts group in an Exchange account, or the Last Import Group (when it’s displayed).
