Keynote for iOS (iPad): Share presentations by connecting to your computer

Share presentations by connecting to your computer

Using iTunes on your computer, you can directly transfer presentations between your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch and your computer. You can import Keynote ’09 or Microsoft PowerPoint presentations from your computer to view or edit in Keynote on your iOS device. Keynote presentations created on your iOS device can also be exported to your computer in Keynote, PDF, or PowerPoint file formats.

To learn how to connect your iOS device to a computer, see the relevant topics in the device’s User Guide (in Safari bookmarks on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, tap the User Guide link, and then search for “sync”).

Export a presentation to your computer:

  1. Open the presentation you want to export, and then tap Tools button in the toolbar.

  2. Tap “Share and Print,” and then tap “Send to iTunes.”

  3. Tap the document format you want to export to: Keynote, PDF, or PowerPoint (PPT).

  4. Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your iOS device appears in the left side of the iTunes window (under Devices).

  5. In iTunes, select your iOS device, and then click Apps.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the Apps window, and then select Keynote (in the Apps list under File Sharing).

  7. Select the name of the presentation you want to transfer to your computer, and then click “Save to.”

  8. In the window that appears, navigate to the location where you want to store the presentation, and then click Open.

Import a presentation from your computer:

Keynote can open presentations that were saved using some types of file encryption available in Microsoft Office 97 and later. If you can't open an encrypted Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, try changing the type of encryption or the encryption options used, and then save it again before opening it in Keynote.

  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your iOS device appears in the left side of the iTunes window (under Devices).

  2. In iTunes, select your iOS device, and then click Apps.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Apps window, and then select Keynote (in the Apps list under File Sharing).

  4. Click Add, and then locate the presentation you want to import in the Open window that appears.

  5. Select the file, and then click Open.

  6. Open Keynote on your iOS device.

  7. In Presentations view, tap New Presentation button, and then tap iTunes.

  8. Tap the name of the presentation you want to import in the list.

The presentation downloads to your iOS device and appears in Presentations view.
